"The Control Group" is the debut horror-thriller by director Peter Hurd and features Anthony Bannach's debut original music score for a feature-length film, and was produced by fellow composer Michael Teoli. Ambient and brooding 80's style synths create a tense atmospheric basis for the score, which help serve as a contrast to the pulse pounding drums and screeching guitars and strings when the action picks up. The music, written primarily in 2013-early 2014, takes influences from multiple creators of 80's horror soundtracks like John Harris, Goblin, and John Carpenter, who composed music for many of his own films. This original score provides the sonic backdrop to the movie's physical one: an abandoned insane asylum where government experiments take place, but are not what they seem. Even in the soundtrack, there is a mystery that is waiting to be unraveled, should you dare.
